North Puget Sound:
  • Highs in the low to mid 40’s turning colder in the afternoon due to heavy showers
  • Lows in the mid 30’s
  • Steady rain in the morning hours, ending by 6 AM, and then heavy showers beginning around 9 AM lasting the rest of the day. Slight chance of some snowflakes mixing in for the higher hilltops during the heaviest showers. No accumulations expected.
  • Scattered thunderstorms in the evening and nighttime hours
  • Gusts in the 20’s
South Puget Sound
  • Highs in the low 40’s with temperatures dropping locally into the upper 30’s during heavy showers
  • Lows in the mid 30’s
  • Steady rain ending around 5 AM, with scattered heavy showers following that the rest of the day. Chance of some snowflakes mixing in during the heaviest showers, especially in the later evening. Very small to no accumulations expected. 
  • Scattered thunderstorms 
  • Gusts in the 20’s
North Willamette Valley:
  • Highs in the mid 40’s
  • Lows in the mid 30’s
  • Steady rain ending by 5 AM with heavy showers following for the rest of the day.

South Willamette Valley:
  • Highs in the mid 40’s
  • Lows in the mid 30’s
  • Steady rain ending by 4 AM with scattered showers following for the remainder of the day. Very slight chance of some snowflakes for the higher hilltops. No accumulations expected.
  • Isolated thunderstorms 
  • Gusts in the 20’s

Friday, March 14th

A small, secondary low pressure center makes landfall near the Oregon-California border…

North Puget Sound:
  • Highs around 50 degrees
  • Lows around 40 degrees 
  • Steady rain starting around 6 PM, lasting until about 9 PM, showers will follow.
  • Gusts in the teens
South Puget Sound:
  • Highs in the low 50’s
  • Lows in the upper 30’s
  • Chance of steady rain from about 8-10:30 AM, then a break until about 3 PM when steady rain returns. Should last for a couple hours, with showers following.
  • Gusts in the teens 
North Willamette Valley:
  • Highs in the mid 40’s
  • Lows in the upper 30’s
  • Heavy rain ending by 6 AM and then showers resuming around 11 AM, and lasting most of the day.
  • Gusts in the upper 20’s
South Willamette Valley:
  • Highs around 50 degrees
  • Lows in the lower 40’s
  • Steady rain will start around 6 AM and end by 10:30 AM. Heavy showers for the rest of the day.
  • Gusts in the 20’s

    Good forecast for the temperature in the South Sound for today. Temperature never made it out of the 40s, and we saw a temperature drop of 2 degrees during the heavy showers this afternoon.

  Windstorms Windstorms are some of the most damaging weather scenarios we receive in the Pacific Northwest. Winds we typically receive in the Pacific Northwest are only high enough to be classified as “blustery”, but with the right conditions aloft, areas of the PNW can be hit by highly damaging wind speeds. Wind is caused by a gradient in pressure. By “gradient in pressure” I mean a change from low to high pressure over an area. The tighter the gradient, the higher the wind speeds. PNW wind is caused by a low setting up off the coastline, and then moving over the area.
